The sound of something really special

Rowena – Lead

669V4205Hi – I’m Rowena, Lead with Enigma.

Music has always been my great passion, encouraged by my dad who was a great musician, he having studied at Kneller Hall amongst other places. I learnt to play the piano, (not always very willingly) but it stood me in good stead musically for the other things I have done.

My singing career has encompassed various forms of music, principally sacred choral works, which are my first love. I have sung with the Goring Chamber Choir, the Wesley Consort and the Wokingham Choral Society. I’ve been lucky enough to sing at Winchester, Salisbury and Guildford Cathedrals, and a number of times at the Royal Albert Hall.

Then in 1991 I found myself joining the world of a-cappella singing, and have been a member of the Reading Barberettes, Capital Connection and now Signature Singers. I sang lead with Synergy from 1997 to 2002 when we won the bronze medal – it was my first ever experience of quartetting and I loved every minute of it.

RoEnigma was formed in 2003 – made up of 3 basses and a tenor!!! Singing lead in quartet instead of bass as I do in the chorus caused me some sleepless nights to start with, but I really enjoy the challenge. I consider it a great privilege to be a member of such an exceptional quartet, especially as we won the LABBS Gold medal in 2005.

I have a very busy life – I am a barrister working within Her Majesty’s Court Service and no two days are ever the same! I love travelling, and I adore cats!!!!!

I love all kinds of music, especially country……I’m a great fan of Willie Nelson and Tim McGraw.

Most of all I love to laugh and have a good time – which is why I joined Enigma!!
We have a great time together, especially on shopping trips ( which Sue our Bass hates – but strangely enough she always ends up buying something………)
