Sue – Bass
Hi – I’m Sue, I sing Bass with Enigma, live in Twickenham with my husband and 2 grown up sons. I work at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington where I manage the Intensive Care Unit (or Intensive Scare Unit as some people call it!)
I have been singing all my life in school choirs and for 7 years with my mum in Rainham Ladies Choir. We travelled extensively throughout the UK and Europe and won many Music Festivals. I also sang with my mum in trios and duets.
I played the piano to Grade 7, learning on an old piano my dad put on a platform in the garage! Eventually he knocked a hole in the wall through into the kitchen cupboard so it became a room in the house!
I left home at 18 to start Nurse training at Charing Cross Hospital. Sadly my music took a bit of a back seat for a few years.
After having my first son I saw an advert in the local paper for a four part harmony group and went along to find Zena and Thameside Chorus who I sang with for 3 years. It was here that my friendship with Alison Jones (bari Jazz Firm) first started. She, another Alison and I constituted the Bari section!
We both moved on to Capital Connection and enjoyed the privilege of singing with them for a number of years. Here I tasted success at several Conventions, went to Calgary,Kansas,Killarney,Holland and all around the country and was Chairman for 3 years.
Alison and I joined with Angela (Vox Concordia and Tenor with Hot Gossip at one stage) and Barbi to form Calypso. We managed to mike warm the quartet finals twice and sang the first parody on the quartet competition stage – a memorable occasion. Sadly Barbi moved back to Canada and Alison decided to go home to Yorkshire where she has been moderately successful (!!!!!!)
Signature and Enigma were formed in 2003. Sue, Ro and Steph had sung in Synergy before this and I felt privileged to be asked to sing with them. Happily when we drew straws Steph got the Bari one!! Steph, Ro and I constitute 60% of the Bass section of Signature so it was touch and go I can tell you!
I love singing with Enigma (but I hate the shopping!) – we all share a love of music of all kinds and try always to sing songs the public will enjoy and recognise.
We were delighted to win the LABBS Gold medal in Cardiff in 2005, and we want to thank our friends, familys and our chorus for their ongoing love and support.
