Enigma

The sound of something really special

Hi,

I am the baritone in Enigma, which usually means I have to sing all the notes that nobody else wants to sing! I have been married to Louis (Enigma’s official photographer!) for more years than either of us can remember, and my ‘day’ job is Payrol Manager for a large multinational. The rest of the time I am mum to two fantastic children, Kate and Tom, and I also double as ‘pet mum’ to the family menagerie (2 dogs at the last count, plus occasional pet sitting for Kate’s 3 cats and her horse!).

I began my love of singing in the church choir and then performed as a folk duo while at teacher training college, but it was only after moving to Hampshire and hearing a Sweet Adeline rehearsal that I was ‘grabbed’ by the barbershop bug! I sang tenor with that chorus for a number of years, even doing a performance a few days before my daughter was born (wearing a red tent as I recall!). We, as a family, then moved counties and I spent many happy years singing tenor and bass with the Reading Barberettes and later on singing bass with the lovely girls at Capital Connection. I also tried out a few variations of quartet line-ups and had fun competing and experiencing the joy of quarteting – especially winning a bronze medal in 2002 with Synergy.

Now I find myself singing bass with our fabulous chorus, Signature, and baritone with Enigma – not sure how or why but I think it seemed a good idea at the time – had we perhaps had a glass or two of red wine? However it came about, the quartet seems to be working very well and we are enjoying ourselves immensely. Achieving the Gold medal on 2005 along with the music, singing and presentation
trophies was fabulous and we were thrilled to perform at BinG in Germany and Indianapolis
USA in 2006.
